ハードコアのエネルギー、初期のボアダムスのようなカオス、ポストパンクのピラミッドダイナミクス、歪んだポップの感性を組み合わせた音楽で、Jailbird Yは2009年の広島で結成されて以来、常に進化し続けているバンドだ。2017年にメンバーが全面リニューアルし、広島のanndoe、sayoccoを中心とした新ラインナップに加え、東京の活気あるポストパンク/オルタナティブシーンのmayumi（P-iPLE）、tagesu（満州候補者、NO）、saeki（ex。都心）、$umitⒶ（ex.Compact Club）が加わりメンバーが徐々に定着してきた。
2010年のアルバム「Jailbird Y」でデビューし、続いて2013年には「UMS」EPをリリース。2017年、バンドは「Sex Trip」EPをリリースし、メルトバナナ、パニックスマイルなどと共に、Call And Response Recordsの既に完売したコンピレーションアルバム「Throw Away Your CDs Go Out To A Show」に参加しました。
ライブステージでは、OOIOO、DMBQ、あふりらんぽ、Acid Mothers Temple、Bloodthirsty Butchers、Zoobombs、Joe Lally（from Fugazi）等のアンダーグラウンドレジェンドと並んで活躍し、日本の新しいポストパンクの重要な部分を形成している。最近では、Jailbird Yは、ベトナムのDao Xuan Festival、2つの台湾ツアー、韓国のアーティストとのライブ配信コラボレーションに出演するなど、アジアに活動を拡大している。
本作「秘密の暗号Y」は、2019年夏に台湾で録音され、メンバーチェンジ後のJailbird Yによる最初のリリース！ベースに満州候補者のmoriを迎え録音した。
With music combining the raw energy of hardcore, the chaos of early Boredoms, the angular dynamics of post-punk and a distorted pop sensibility, Jailbird Y are a band who have been constantly evolving ever since forming in 2009 Hiroshima. Following a complete renewal of members in 2017, they have gradually settled into a new lineup based around Anndoe and Sayocco in Hiroshima, plus members drawn from Tokyo’s lively post-punk/alternative scene: Mayumi (P-iPLE), Tagesu (満州候補者, NO), Saeki (ex.都心) and $umitⒶ (ex.Compact club).
They debuted with the 2010 album “Jailbird Y”, with the “UMS” EP following in 2013. In 2017, the band released the “Sex Trip” EP and participated in Call And Response Records’ sold-out “Throw Away Your CDs Go Out To A Show” compilation alongside Melt-Banana, Panicsmile and more.
On the live stage, the band have been active playing alongside underground legends like OOIOO, DMBQ, Afrirampo, Acid Mothers Temple, Bloodthirsty Butchers, Zoobombs and Joe Lally (from Fugazi), as well as forming an important part of Japan’s new post-punk underground. More recently, Jailbird Y have expanded their activities into Asia with an appearance at Vietnam’s Dao Xuan Festival, two Taiwan tours, and live broadcast cooperation with artists in South Korea.
Recorded in Taiwan during summer 2019, “秘密の暗号Y / Secret Code Y” is the new Jailbird Y lineup’s first release, with all proceeds from Bandcamp sales going to help the live venue Nakano Moonstep in Tokyo.
